Drummer Mike Malinin, Goo Goo Dolls Split!
Personnel changes in rock bands are no surprise, but it hits close to home when it hits one of your own. For the past little while, Malinin had been replaced by Lifehouse drummer Rick Woolstenhulme Jr while attending to a family matter, thought to be his wife’s pregnancy. However it seems there is a lot more to the story, as over the past few days Mike's permanent departure from the band was announced, it according to Classic Rock Magazine, it was not necessarily Mike's decision. The official Goo Goo Dolls webpage reads:
Over the past few days you may have heard through the internet that our drummer of the past 19 years, Mike Malinin will no longer be touring with the band. It is true Mike is no longer with the band, but we wish him the best in his new journey and hope that fans and friends alike will take a minute to consider this decision was not taken lightly by anyone involved. Things happen personally and professionally that drive difficult decisions like this, but rest assured we are looking forward to continuing our 28 year journey as GGDS. We can't wait to share more music and memories with all the fans and friends that have been such a huge part of our lives.
Happy New Year! Goo Goo Dolls

I'm sure we'll get Robby in studio at some point to talk about what really went down.
