We've often said that

While watching this segment on giving soldiers a second chance, I wondered if we had something like this in Buffalo. Only to find out this STARTED IN BUFFALO! We should be so proud to have this in our city, especially on Memorial Weekend. If the video below doesn't work click here to watch in a seperate window.

So What Is A Mom Made Of?

For Mother's Day Weekend, we thought we would post some of the Mominations we received in our Star Moms search. We're betting there's a bit of your mom (or you!) in every one of these Mominations!
Enjoy!

My mom is the most kind and patient woman I have ever known. She is constantly doing helpful and loving things for me and for my children as well. I hear people say "Ugh, I am turning into my mom". I only hope to be a fraction of the woman my mom is. She's my best friend and the best person I know. This would be a nice way to pamper her for all she does for others.

My friend Liz is the ULTIMATE star mom. Her youngest of 3 children has a rare illness. She was an amazing teacher and resigned to care for him. She still finds the positive in the worst days and lives to pay it forward. She organized a fund raiser to purchase TimH's gift cards for parents at Children's Hospital who can't rationalize buying a cup of coffee with mounting medical bills. She also has a "drive by bakery" where she surprises a fellow mom in need with homemade treats. I consider myself a great mom, but I am completely humbled by her.

My wife Antoinette is a Star Mom because she was able to care for our toddler son Matthew while she was pregnant with our second child Megan, going to Canisius college for her Master's Degree in teaching, and working a full-time job all at once. She has also been able to dedicate many weekends and evenings occupying our children while I had to work. Even though that was a couple of years ago, she continues to amaze me everyday. She has our children ready for school/daycare every morning, takes our daughter to dance class early Saturday mornings, and helps our son with his homework every night without ever complaining. She will stop whatever she is doing to play video games, or "snuggle" with our children. Our family bond is growing stronger each day because of Antoinette and we all love her very much for being our Star Mom!

Well, I could go on forever! My mom teaches special ed in buffalo full time, runs a variety show on weekends, and here is the biggie..... takes my 6 kids overnight on most Fridays. To top this off, she has Sunday dinners for my family, as well as any other family members that join in that week. With a total of 11 grandkids, she stays busy, yet will always find time to help someone out , even before being asked. My mom has inspired me to keep going with my education, showing me it is possible to gain a degree (or 3 in her case) , even with children at home. She is highly respected at her job, and even more at home. From the caring nature she gives, to eye stare that gave "that warning", I became a confident parent of my own. I have learned and gained so much from her in the years , while not realizing what I was being "taught"! If I become only half the woman she is, I will have succeeded. Even if I don't win this contest, I have won with having her as my mom :) Thanks, Mom!

My Mom is My Star because she is always there for me. She never left my side when I was in the hospital. I watched her sleep in an uncomfortable chair beside the bed just to make sure I was okay. That's why I think she is worth it. If it wasn't for her I may not be here. She's strong, works so hard, and would do anything for my Sister and I. She never does anything for herself, always focuses on us. She can make me laugh when I'm feeling down, but be there to comfort me when I need it.

Jackie married my father 20some years ago. And he came with a ready made family of 4 crazy kids. And she loved every single one of us as her own. She loved us even though she didnt have to. To know that someone else can love you as unconditionally as a biological parent is a great feeling. Jackie has become my best friend and my rock. The kindest and selfless person i know. So blessed am I to have her as my mother and a grandmother to my kids. I love you Jackie

My mother is the greatest star of a mom anyone could ever ask for. Not only does her unconditional love drive everything she does, but she is constantly doing everything she can to make sure that my sister and I are as happy as we could be. She has been my biggest supporter in everything I do and she never fails to make me laugh even on the gloomiest days. Because of her constant love, honesty, and support, she has become my hero. Her passion for life and happiness shines a light over everything she does and every person she knows. My mom is my hero, and my brightest star.

My mom is the best for many reasons. Her most admirable quality is her strength. I realized this about her the day my younger brother told her and my father that he had become a marine and was leaving for bootcamp. After 4 tours in Iraq at a young age and several "close calls," I never saw my mom fall apart like others would have. She held our family together then, and continues to do so everyday! She and my father have helped raise my niece and nephew, she has dedicated herself to working in our local elementary school for over 25 years and is always willing to help others. I feel very blessed and thankful to get to call such an amazing woman "mom," and really hope you choose her. It's time she finally let's others do something nice for her:) Thank you!

Around the same time two years ago, my mom lost her job and I graduated from grad school with my masters in Speech Pathology. I had a very difficult time finding a job around here. I finally was offered a job in Rochester. Due to a disability, I can't drive. For the past year and a half, my mom has driven me to and from Rochester every day so I can work. She has braved white outs, rainstorms and extreme wind, all with a smile on her face. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for her.

My 12 yr old son wanted to nominate me, but was not able to get online to enter because of his age,
so he wrote out this note and had me do it. My mom is a single mom and for a long time sacrificed anything and everything to give me all she can. She saved for over 2 years to take me to Disney World last year which was amazing, but meant no extras like concerts or eating out or even movies for 2 years. I would like to win this for her to pay her back. She really likes New Kids On The Block.

Could Your Home Be Sophie’s New Home?

One of our STAR co-workers has to find a new home for his dog, Sophie. As you'll read, this has been a very tough decision, but sometimes the realities of life don't always make it possible to have a pet. If you think your home may be right for Sophie, please contact Todd Wojtowicz at 716-843-0600, or twojtowicz@entercom.com asap. They will be moving into a new complex (that doesn't allow pets) on June 1, so RLITM is putting on the full court press in hoping to find Sophie a new home well before then. So who is Sophie? Todd writes:

My wife and I recently had a baby and unfortunately, we cannot give our dog Sophie the kind of love and attention that she deserves. Plus, we will soon be moving to a new complex that does not allow dogs.

We rescued Sophie after she was found in 2010 wandering around a downtown Los Angeles construction site with a wire collar embedded in her neck. She had a gaping wound in her neck and it was obvious she was an abused dog. She weighed about 35 pounds when she was first found and rescued.

Sophie is about 7 years old and she now weighs about 75-80 pounds. She really is a beautiful dog and very healthy. Sophie loves to run around the back yard and go on long walks. She also loves to chew on bones and eat yummy dog treats!

She's a black lab mix. Not sure what the other part of her is, but we were told it could be pit or boxer. We do not want to put her in a shelter, so we are hoping that we can find a new owner for Sophie before our June 1st move-in date.

I think the very best type of owner for her would be a single person or a young couple. Due to her past, she needs a lot of love, attention and daily exercise.
