#1. John Cusack and Matthew Broderick were both offered the role of Walter White, but both actors passed.
#2. AMC had reservations about casting Bryan Cranston as Walt, as they really only recognized him from "Malcolm in the Middle." To convince them otherwise, "Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan showed AMC executives an episode of "The X-Files" in which Cranston plays a troubled racist who's head is on the verge of exploding. "That was all it took," claimed Gilligan, who also wrote that episode while working as a writer and producer for "The X-Files."
#3. Aaron Paul's character of Jesse Pinkman was originally supposed to die at the end of the first season. Vince Gilligan told Paul he changed his mind because he liked Jesse and Walt's chemistry, but Paul still felt very nervous that Jesse "could die at any moment" from then on. Cranston, fully aware of Paul's vulnerability, would use this fact to play practical jokes on the set. "Bryan would come up and give me a hug and say, 'I'm not going to say anything but it was such a pleasure working with you. It's been an amazing past year-and-a-half, and you have a huge career ahead of you,'" Paul remembers.
#4. Zombie drama "The Walking Dead" gave a friendly nod to its fellow AMC series "Breaking Bad" in a second season episode titled "Bloodletting." In it, a character named Daryl pulls out a sack of drugs and painkillers, and Walter White's blue methamphetamine is clearly visible at the bottom. "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman called it "a little Easter egg we were doing for AMC fans."
#5. Sony Pictures Television and Teleset are currently working on a Spanish language remake of "Breaking Bad" to air on Univision. Called "Metástasis," the show will star Diego Trujillo (as Walter Blanco) and Roberto Urbina (as Jose Miguel Rosas).
#6. In season one, Walt and Jesse dissolve a body (and a bathtub, and a floor) with gallons of hydrofluoric acid, which they later use to dissolve more bodies, and even a dirt bike. But on an episode of "Mythbusters," the hosts pretty much determined that hydrofluoric acid — although dangerous and possibly lethal — couldn't do anything close to that.
#7. During an interview on "The Howard Stern Show," Bryan Cranston revealed that DEA chemists actually taught him the exact process for cooking meth in preparation for some of his scenes — but he claimed he never actually got to cook it. Stern didn't believe him, and questioned him about how his "batch" turned out. "Well, I made one with and one without nuts," Cranston joked.
#8. Before ending up on AMC, Vince Gilligan and Sony Pictures Television pitched "Breaking Bad" to HBO, TNT and FX, who actually bought the series, then passed after reading over the first script. FX president John Landgraf said that FX didn't need another show with a male anti-hero, after already having "The Shield," "Nip/Tuck" and "Rescue Me." (Gilligan also says that TNT's execs looked at each other and said, "If we bought this, we'd be fired.")
#9. During filming for "The Avengers," Samuel L. Jackson wanted to make a cameo appearance on "Breaking Bad" as a customer in the Pollos Hermanos chicken restaurant — completely in character as Nick Fury. "The Avengers" was shooting at a nearby studio to "Breaking Bad," so Jackson thought it would be fun to quickly walk into a shot wearing his Nick Fury costume. But the producers wouldn't allow it. "I just wanted to order a three-piece and really freak people out," Jackson joked.
#10. Bob Odenkirk, who plays bus-bench lawyer Saul Goodman, says he doesn't know how the show will end. "I did not read the last episode and a half. Wherever I was not in it, I did not read it," he told Rolling Stone. "Not only did I not read the parts I was not in, I put them in the trash in my e-mail, and then I deleted my trash." The reason? Odenkirk such a fan, he doesn't want to spoil it for himself.
Here's what the cast and celebs tweeted last night:
Bryan Cranston's Sunday Tweet of the Day: “Well, this is it. The last episode ever of Breaking Bad. Thank you for sharing this ride with me. Without you we never would have lasted''
Ellen DeGeneres: #BreakingBad ends tonight. No more murderous drug dealers and horrifying criminals. I miss it already.
Octavia Spencer: @BryanCranston Amazing iconic character! Sad to see him go! Congrats #WalterWhite Best. Show. Ever #BreakingBad @aaronpaul_8 Way to go out like the champ you are! Brilliant show! Thanks #BreakingBad #BryanCranston
Don Cheadle: #BreakingBad Salute!
Melissa Gilbert: Oh my God! My whole house went dark during last 5 minutes of @BreakingBad_AMC . My DVR jumped from the phone conversation to the end
Rosie O'Donnell: u know when u see a great movie and the crowd claps - or on b way when u stand up - i wish the #BreakingBad cast n crew could feel that now
Seth Meyers: Thanks, Breaking Bad.
And just in case you need it, here's the series finale recap: Walter steals an unlocked car and just narrowly avoids police, who are out looking for him. He heads to Gretchen and Elliot's home where he lays $9 million in cash in front of them. Walter wants them to give it to his kids. If not, he'll have them killed. Walter arranges a meeting at the meth lab, telling Jack he wants to do business with him. When Walter arrives, Jack's goons frisk him and take him inside. Just when Jack is about to have Walter shot, Walter accuses Jack of partnering with Jesse. Jack has Jesse brought in in chains to prove to Walter that they're not partners. Jack knocks Jesse to the floor, pretending to attack him. Walter pushes a button on his remote control. The trunk to his car opens and a machine gun starts spraying bullets hitting everyone except for Jesse and Todd. After the bullets stop, Jesse strangles Todd and Walter shoots a wounded Jack in the head. Walter then tries to get Jesse to kill him, but Jesse tells Walter he'll have to do it himself and takes off in his car. Walter goes over to Todd’s body and finds his ringing phone. It's Lydia. Walter answers and tells her it’s all done and that Todd is gone and so is everyone else. Walter tells her he spiked her drink earlier that day with ricin and then says goodbye to her. Walter just stands there and looks at his bleeding bullet wound. He then goes into the meth lab and takes a look around as the police are coming up the driveway. Walter picks up a gas mask and smiles. The police arrive and find Walter's dead body in the lab.
Before he hit the stage at FNC Tuesday, Michael Buble held court for about a half hour with 30 lucky Star Fans during his afternoon soundcheck. Up close and personal, Michael is just as he is while on stage, only
a little more casual and less on guard, which is why we weren't able to record the soundcheck or take more than the standard pics. Doing that would have truly affected the event. You could tell Michael wanted to be able to act normal, tell jokes, interact, swear like a normal person, without fear of it being caught on camera or sound and have something unflattering show up on social media. Can't blame him for that.
Highlights from his soundcheck and after-chat with the Star Crew...
Took requests from listeners. Sang "Man In The Mirror" while reading the lryics from his phone...till he lost the cell.
Told stories about being a Canucks fan and hating how they traded Cory Hodgson to the Sabres
Michael and wife Luisa (who was stage side the whole time) went to the Galleria on Monday, saw the movie Prisoners, and she talked ALL THE WAY THROUGH IT! Michael does incredible imitations of his wife speaking english...makes her sound a bit like Sofia Vergara
In talking about his being a new dad. he proudly whipped out his phone and showed baby pics the way any proud dad would.
Said his dad was p----ed at him for spending close to $5 million on the tour production and staging.
He is a night owl, especially on tour. He's so wound up after the show he normally falls asleep about 6AM.
I mentioned to him that we played one of his Christmas songs to give away tickets last week, and he said that's amazing because he's been singing nothing but Christmas songs to his son Noah!
Paul Anka still calls him now and again with business advice and stock tips!
I've often said that "musically, everything old is new again...and that's not a bad thing." When you listen to anything from Bruno Mars newest material, to Daft Punk, to Justin Timberlake's "Take Back The Night", you might as well be hearing Prince, Chic, or Earth Wind and Fire. You can certainly tell Justin, Bruno, and others grew up listening to the cool punk/funk/rock in their parents music library. There were probably some Rick James records in there too!
Any of their latest works would be so at home on EWF's Greatest Hits, one of the best pop/funk compliations ever, and a MUST for any record collection. And yes, you should have it on vinyl! The CBS Sunday Morning Show recently aired a profile on EWF. Check out the transcript and video. it's a good watch. I only wish they had the entire video feature posted.

If you have ever come out to one of our station remotes, you know we have a special place in our heart for the game of Plinko! On Friday, "The Price Is Right" celebrates the game's 30th anniversary with an all-Plinko episode! And even though Bob Barker used to say to the winners who got the plinko chip in the winning spot to do it the same way to win again, we at Star have found that's not always true on the Star 102.5 Plinko board! Current host Drew Carey says “I would drop the chip down the center every time,” though he admits that doesn’t make it easy. “Bowling would be easy if people could remember with muscle memory exactly how they shoot every time they get the strike, but no one can remember.”
In case you missed the Emmy's last night let us catch you up! "Breaking Bad" swept up the award for Best Drama Series and surprise..."Modern Family" won Best Comedy Series! (Check out the complete list of winners below)
Last night's Emmy's questioned Neil Patrick Harris' very serious condition of serial-hosting with a mock-service annoucement, and while it was funny, it had us missing Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. And a little fun fact they don't tell you... the Emmy statues are not made of solid gold. They actually are a mix of copper, nickel and gold and weigh 7 pounds.
Wake up with us Monday Morning to win FLOOR SEATS for Michael Buble next Tuesday at FNC! This vid should get you through the weekend. And yes, the girl in the video, Luisana Lopilato, is now Michael's wife...and mom to their son Noah!
An 8 year-old North Carolina boy recently wrote a letter to Santa asking him to stop bullies from teasing his twin sister. The letter read:
My mom said to send you a Christmas list. I wanted a remote control car and helicopter but I do not want that anymore.
Kids at school are still picking on Amber and it is not fair because she does not do anything to them and it makes me mad.
I prayed they would stop, but God is busy and I need your help.
Is it against the rules to give up gifts early?
Can you ask Big Time Rush to come to Amber’s birthday party? It will make her so happy.
If you do not get them to come that is fine, just get her everything she asked for.
PS- My mom throws the best birthday parties. You can come if you want.
The boy's mom, Karen Suffern, is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: I try to build up my daughter's self-esteem and tell her she is beautiful, but people say hurtful things to me, because I also have a weight problem, and that hurts me. I can't imagine what she goes through. Every day when she goes to school, she says, “Mommy, can I just stay at home?” and she just doesn't want to go.’ And now every time I send her to school, I feel like I am not protecting her and I am letting her down. If my kids don't call names and pick on others, I would expect other parents to teach their kids to be respectful, too. There have been times my kids would point at others and say, "why is her hair so strange" and things like that, and I would say, "You know, people are different, and that is just the way they are.'"
You can't get a more romantic story than Shonda Moats told this morning about how her hubby, Bills LB Arthur, proposed to her after just 3 months of knowing her! It's a Lifetime movie! She also dishes about Arthur’s painted toenails, their 2 kids (one just starting 1st grade), and how quickly things happen in the life of an NFL wife!

There's nothing earth shattering here, but I just thought these were GREAT thoughts from Jack Nicholson on aging, and young people watching movies. I don't think he sounds cranky...just right on! In an interview with the British newspaper The Sun, he said:
“I have a mathematician’s brain... I’m not going to work until the day I die, that’s not why I started this. I mean, I’m not driven. I was driven - but I’m not, I don’t have to be out there any more. In fact, there’s part of me that never really liked being out there... You get older, you change.”
The movie business is the greatest business but I only want to do films that move people, films about emotions and people. I had the most chilling thought that maybe people in their twenties and thirties don’t actually want to be moved anymore. They may want just to see more bombs, more explosions, because that is what they have grown up with. And I’ll never do that type of movie.”
Wow, Alissa Chandler really brought it this morning! She gave us great insight on what a brand new coaching staff and teammates mean for the wives, how her husband, Scott, is too big for some of the rides at Disney World, and the coincidence of every time he gets injured, they end up with a baby!
TSO hits Buffalo, December 30th at First Niagara Center! Tickets aren't on sale for the public yet, however you can get them presale on the official TSO website. But there's nothing quite like getting them for free! Win all week when you wake up with RLITM, and work with Roger Christian.
By the way we start playing our Christmas music next week!Just kidding...
Bruno Mars will be your 2014 Super Bowl Halftime star!! But before Mars was a hitmaker, selling millons of records, he was impersonating his idols: Elvis, James Brown and Michael Jackson. Check out the vid below to learn how Mars got his start as an artist, what it was like for him to be on SNL, and his platinum certified album, Unorthodox Jukebox.
The real question is will Bruno Mars beat Beyonce's performance last year??!
It's one thing to see an artist or band hold court in an arena of 18,000 people, and quite another to see them perform in a tiny cabaret. That's where you can best see their true genius and personality. How they relate to an audience when they can see every face, what they are doing, what they are saying, and an audience that is so close to performer that they can see through any tricks they use to get through a show. If someone can't play or sing, it will come through in this environment.
That's why I LOVED stumbling upon this video of Rod Stewart at the Troubadour in L.A. The scene very reminisncent of the Goo Goo Dolls in the Town Ballroom about 6 years ago. High points are Rod talking about his kids texting while he's busting his ass on stage (about two songs in) and song 3...IT'S OVER, which was a huge hit in the UK, and should be here! Let the video below load (it's a 48 min package), crank your pc speakers, and appreciate a one-on-one session with one of the most iconic voices ever....
Sarah Silverman's dog, Duck, has died at age 19. She wrote:
"It always tickled me that even though we were different species He was my best friend. Duck left me today but I forgive him."
"I couldn't figure out this hunger strike. Duck had never been political before. And then, over the weekend, I knew. It was time to let him go.''
"We laid in bed and massaged his tiny body, as we love to do—hearing his little 'I'm in heaven' breaths" until the vet arrived to administer "basically an overdose of sleeping meds."
"I held him and kissed him and whispered to him well passed his passing. I picked him up and his body was limp—you don't think about the head—it just falls. I held him so tight. And then finally, when his body lost its heat, and I could sense the doctor thinking about the imminent rush hour traffic, I handed him over.
My longest relationship.
My only experience of maternal love.
My constant companion.
