This audition will be overseen by Lou Castro (Associate Choreographer for Newsies) who has worked on the Broadway productions of Women on the Verge, 13, and Sunday in the Park with George

About Newsies

Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score with music by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, Newsies is directed by Tony nominee Jeff Calhoun and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, who won a 2012 Tony Award for his work.
The show received 23 major theatrical nominations – including eight Tony Award nods – and won Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Score and Best Choreography.  One of Broadway’s highest profile hits, it has been featured nationally on “Dancing with the Stars,” “The View,” “Good Morning America,” “Nightline,” “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” and “The CBS Thanksgiving Day Parade.”
Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike for what’s right.
Newsies is inspired by the real-life ‘Newsboy Strike of 1899,’ when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long action against Pulitzer, Hearst and other powerful newspaper publishers.
The stage version introduces seven brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner,’ ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’
Since the film’s 1992 theatrical release and subsequent DVD release, Newsies has grown into a cult phenomenon, and for years had been the single most requested title of all the Disney musical films not yet adapted for the stage.  (The film featured a screenplay by Bob Tzudiker & Noni White (Tarzan, 102 Dalmatians).)

Harold Ramis...Hollywood Good Guy...Passes at 69

Legendary actor and director Harold Ramis passed away at age 69. He was battling auto-immune inflammatory vasculitis. Harold wrote and starred in Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. He also wrote Animal House, Caddyshack, Back to School, Stripes, Meatballs and Analyze This.

Ramis once worked in a mental institution in St. Louis for seven months. He said, ''... prepared me well for when I went out to Hollywood to work with actors. People laugh when I say that, but it was actually very good training. And not just with actors; it was good training for just living in the world. It's knowing how to deal with people who might be reacting in a way that's connected to anxiety or grief or fear or rage. As a director, you’re dealing with that constantly with actors. But if I were a businessman, I’d probably be applying those same principles to that line of work.''

Ramis also worked as a subsitute teacher in Chicago and as a joke editor at Playboy.

Bill Murray is a godfather to one of his children

Someone honored Harold by leaving a Twinkie in front of the Ghostbusters firehouse in New York.

Stars React to Harold Ramis' Death

Bill Murray said: "Harold Ramis and I together did the National Lampoon Show together off Broadway, Meatballs, Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him."

Dan Akroyd's statement to The Hollywood Reporter reads: "(I am) deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my brilliant, gifted, funny friend, co-writer/performer and teacher Harold Ramis. May he now get the answers he was always seeking."

Steve Martin: "So sorry to hear about the death of Harold Ramis, a comedy master. Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, and more"

Jason Biggs: Filling out the paperwork to rename my kid Harold.

Judd Apatow told the Chicago Trib, "When I was 15, I interviewed Harold for my high school radio station, and he was the person that I wanted to be when I was growing up. His work is the reason why so many of us got into comedy. We grew up on Second City TV and Ghostbusters, Vacation, Animal House, Stripes, Meatballs. He literally made every single one of our favorite movies."

Seth MacFarlane: Harold Ramis was a brilliant, shining example for every comedy writer hoping to achieve excellence the field. He will be sorely missed

Tom Arnold: So sad about Harold Ramis. His work changed my life and inspired me and made me want to do what I do. Very nice man and a good neighbor too

Zach Braff: If you're my age and got into comedy, Harold Ramis was one of the reasons. Life is fast and over too soon.

Albert Brooks: So sad to hear about Harold Ramis. Comedy lost a big one

Jimmy Kimmel: "I collect spores, molds, and fungus" - condolences to the family and friends of the great Harold Ramis

Jon Favreau: “No no not Harold Ramis. Worked for him years ago. He was the real deal. Growing up, his work changed my life. He will be missed”, while Roth tweets, “Oh no, Harold Ramis died. One of my filmmaking heroes. Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day… So sad.”

This Dog Just Wants To Have Fun!

Haven't had a funny dog video in a bit.  Not a whole lot happens here...this boxer is just having a great time playing with a bag of marbles.  But this is a PERFECT example of Play Position.  Even though the dog looks aggressive, having her butt up in the air and her front down on the ground means she is in a playful mood, not confrontational.  Keep that in mind the next you another dog tries to play with yours...if they are in this position, they just wanna have fun!

Original Member Of Devo Passes
Bob Casale, an original member of Devo, died Monday, February 17 at the age of 61. Variety initially reported the news, which had been posted on the band's Facebook page. A message from Casale's brother, Devo founder Gerald Casale read, "As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my levelheaded brother, a solid performer and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got. He was excited about the possibility of Mark Mothersbaugh allowing Devo to play shows again. His sudden death from conditions that led to heart failure came as a total shock to us all."

Everyone in Buffalo Knows This Feeling...

Peter King is a world class writer for Sports Illustrated and  As he travels so much for his job, he always has a "Mr. Starwood" post about his travel adventures. This latest post describes the feeling nearly every Buffalonian has had as we come back to town after a midwinter vacation.

Mr. Starwood Preferred Member Travel Note of the Week

Worst part about going someplace warm for three days and flying back into New York in February: When you return, you fly low over inlets and small fingers of water that are either frozen or ice-capped, and you get off the plane and walk back into the freezer and think there is no way spring is coming. Ever.
