A Working Mom's Open Letter To Gwyneth Paltrow

I usually defend Gwyneth Paltrow, but after some things she said in a few different interviews about how "rough" acting mom's have it, I just can't any more.  She certainly pulled a a Princess Gwyneth.  MacKenzie Dawson of the NY POST penned this Working Mom's Open Letter To Gwyneth...and it sooo good. It got a lot of favs when I tweeted it, so I thought I'd share it for non-twitterheads here.

Time To Stretch Your Face With These Happy Facts

Wanna read something that get your cheeks stretching with glee?

Did you know that there's a basketball court on the top floor of the U.S. Supreme Court Building and it’s known as the highest court in the land?

Or that Jim Cummings (the voice of Winnie the Pooh and Tigger) calls children's hospitals to cheer up children and that blind people smile when they're happy even if they'll never been able to witness it because smiling is a basic human instinct?

If you're already grinning (admit it, you are) and you wanna grow that smile, check out the full list that will
plaster a smile across your face over at Buzzfeed.

What's In Rob's Head?

Haven’t done this in a while.  Random Thoughts From Rob...

Like many, I like a lot of music you would NEVER think I would be into.  I’ve been heavy into Jethro Tull lately.  The Whistler and Locomotive Breathe have been on repeat on my car CD player.

Will Smith, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell.  3 of the most likeable actors…people we root for and love as guests on talk shows cuz they always come with material.  But at the same time, for the past 5 years, they have pretty much been box office poison.  Honestly, name one movie by any of them that didn’t tank, or was even mildly close to fulfilling its promise in the past half-decade.  Maybe JUST GO WITH IT from Sandler (and Jennifer Aniston). MAYBE.  But off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything else.

The last year of the Bud Selig Commissioner era can’t end fast enough.  Never has a sport lost so much ground to other sports as baseball has under his leadership.  Or lack of.  The next commish has to get World Series games starting no later than 7:30, eliminate :30 sec of commercials between every half inning, and find ways to speed up the game without changing rules and integrity.  Oh, two franchises and the DH have to go as well.  Do all that and we’re back to 2:20 games.

My wife and I could make the exact same sandwich, and hers will look and taste better.  She says it’s because she does it with love and care, and I do it like a bricklayer.  She’s right.

So far the NCAA Tourney has left me empty, much like the NHL has for the past 3 years.  It’s just a big tourney of very good teams, no one great. And the team that gets hot at the right time can win it all.  The lesser quality of play is really beginning to show.  College teams now have starters than should be on the bench learning, and end of bench players  who may have been in Division 2 15 years ago.  The NBA needs to adopt the rule they are looking into, that would pretty much force players to stay in school till they were sophomores.

On Demand Video: Taylor Swift Visits Kids At Sloan Kettering
56th GRAMMY Awards - Show
Taylor Swift quietly does this in just about every city she performs and visits.  Spending time with kids in hospitals.  It's very rare there is a report or video of her visits.  When she last came to Buffalo, there was a strict no video or pic policy in effect for media.  She simply doesn't want kids and fans thinking she's doing it for publicity.  And she's not.  Another reason why I can't figure out the Taylor Haters. If you don't like her music, that's one thing.  But not liking the person, is another.  Hollywood has more about Taylor's 5 HOUR hospital visit.  It's a great read!

Even If The Public Likes You, The Voice Can Blow You Out!

The NY Daily News has published what it claims are details from the contract contestants must sign before competing on The Voice.

NBC may:

Change the rules at any time.

Eliminate contestants at any time, even if they are “winning” with the public.

Ignore the show’s voting system, which includes sales figures for contestants’ songs on iTunes, in the event of problems.

Force contestants to undergo medical or psychological testing and, under certain circumstances, release the results on TV.

Springsteen Covers 'Royals.' Lorde Cries...
Lorde tells Rolling Stone that she got teary-eyed when she heard that Bruce Springsteen covered "Royals". "My Twitter went mental. Everyone in New Zealand was like 'You can't believe what just happened! It was so exciting. It was the highest honor. He's such an incredible songwriter. I got a little teary. It was very cool. It's crazy when someone like that is covering your song. Those words were nothing before I put them into my laptop and started messing around with them in the studio. It's crazy to me they could come out of someone's mouth who is that respected."

Daylight Savings Time Begins Sunday. How Long WIll You Be Cranky?

Daylight saving time begins Sunday.  A new survey reveals that the average person needs 3.5 days to adjust to daylight saving time. Other findings:

- 82% of people feel tired, groggy and irritable while adjusting to the time change

- 50% of people need eight or more hours of sleep per night to feel well rested

- 20% of people are sleeping on a mattress that is nine years or older

The Monday after we spring ahead for Daylight Saving Time is the worst Monday of the year for accidents. Observing Daylight Saving Time year-round would prevent 195 motor vehicle deaths and 171 pedestrian fatalities. Arizona, Hawaii, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands don't observe daylight saving time.

University of Alabama at Birmingham Professor Martin Young says, "The Monday and Tuesday after moving the clocks ahead one hour in March is associated with a 10 percent increase in the risk of having a heart attack. The opposite is true when falling back in October. This risk decreases by about 10 percent. Exactly why this happens is not known but there are several theories. Sleep deprivation, the body's circadian clock and immune responses all can come into play when considering reasons that changing the time by an hour can be detrimental to someone's health."

Wake up 30 minutes earlier on Saturday and Sunday than you need to in preparation for the early start on Monday Eat a decent-sized breakfast Go outside in the sunlight in the early morning Exercise in the mornings over the weekend (as long as you do not have pre-existing heart disease) Doing all of this will help reset both the central, or master, clock in the brain that reacts to changes in light/dark cycles, and the peripheral clocks -- the ones everywhere else including the one in the heart -- that react to food intake and physical activity. This will enable your body to naturally synch with the change in the environment, which may lessen your chance of adverse health issues on Monday."

"Between all the nominees here tonight, you've done over 1400 films, 1400 films, and you've gone to a total of six years of college."

"Jennifer Lawrence, by the way, I'm not going to bring up what happened last year. It's ridiculous. Something like that happens and it's embarrassing, and then people just talk about it. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, last year she fell on her way up. Let's just show the clip. And you know the thing about when you fell out of the car tonight when you were getting out the car? No one needs to know about that. "I'm not going to mention that. She fell on the way out of the car. Like on an orange cone you tripped or something. If you win tonight, I think we should bring you the Oscar."

The Show

Ellen ordered 99 pizzas to the Oscars. Brad Pitt gave out plates and napkins. Kevin Spacey took pizza to the cheap seats. Jennifer Lawrence and Harrison Ford ate slices. Leonardo DiCaprio declined the pizza.

This is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS and to those of you who have ever felt injustice to who you are or who you loved. I stand here with you."

John Travolta introduced Idina Menzel as "Adele Dazeem'' before she sang "Let It Go" from the animated film Frozen
