I thought parts of last night’s Oscars were incredibly funny, and other segments of the broadcast were simply “plodding.” I just can’t figure out if this awards show is ever going to completely knock it out of the park again. Seth MacFarlane had a ton of high points as host, and the broadcast itself seemed to be much more contemporary, however I just can’t get over this feeling that so much of the Oscars leaves me empty every single year. I don’t think I’m alone is those thoughts.
I do know this…I made the WRONG choice in watching ABC’s red carpet coverage over E’s. I don’t know if you’ll see a worse broadcast than ABC’s 90 minute preshow. Red carpet broadcasts are always chaotic train-wrecks, but this was just horrible. Lara Spencer was pretty good, as hosting is what she does for a living. But Kristin Chenoweth was god-awful, horribly miscast. It was almost like they spent zero time rehearsing the show or planning for various happenings. I doubt you will see a worse broadcast of any sort for the remaining 10 months of 2013.
