Hot Peppers

Ok, this time of year, I start buying plants...and I don't stop....mind you I have been growing seedlings in my baement all winter too. I especially over do it on peppers. There are so many varieties! I already have 7 tomato plants and 6 pepper plants....Don't even get me started on the herbs! then the next problem...I simply don't have the room. I ended up filling pots with vegetable instead of flowers and then I am a slave to watering them twice a day. You would think I would have learned by now. But the promise of whats to come is making me so anxious that I overdo it...oh well....there are worse things I suppose.

Psych

So all that nice weather-see ya! We really did get spoiled huh? On one hand it was great to get a jump start on the season in my garden...now I want to continue. I have my seedlings in my mini greehouse, since they will freeze otherwise. I'm also having some decorative curbing installed around my front border and if it doesn't get warm they won't install. I'm dying to have it done. Oh well. At least its not snowing...Mothers Day is around the corner. Make mom feel special.

Why don't we just put up a stadium on the waterfront?

Maybe the Buffalo Common Council had it right in investigating putting up a retractable-domed stadium (like Lucas Oil stadium in Indianapolis above) on the waterfront to house the Buffalo Bills and more! I remember back in the 70's when the proposal to put up a domed stadium in Lancaster was all the rage...it would have been the 2nd domed stadium in the USA (after the Houston Astrodome) and I remember well the late-great sportscaster Stan Barron telling me we could have been awarded a National League Baseball team and MLB would have never expanded to Montreal (Expos). It could have been paid for by just charging a nominal fee to curiosity seekers wanting a "tour" of the facility in just 3 years...but we all know by now how everything turned out (and we ended up paying for the Lancaster Stadium after all the lawsuits ANYWAY). If we are going to pay million$ to update The Ralph, we should think about paying a few more million$ to put up a new stadium downtown...that should solve the problem of getting people to come downtown to the waterfront!

Starburst jelly beans

There is no doubt in my mind that I can polish off a bag of Starburst jelly beans in one sitting. I'm not bragging. I just love them. I am going to be glad when Easter is over and the temptation is gone. Easter baking this weekend. Homemade deep dish peach pie and homemade carrot cake...yum yum

Mr. Rogers & Me & Mr. Russert

Fred Rogers would have been 84 today. Ben and Christofer Wagner, two brothers who got to know him later in life (Mr. Rogers vacationed next to them in Nantucket) have produced a cool documentary on his life and their relationship. And of course, there's a Buffalo connection to the project...the late Tim Russert! Listen here.

John Mayer Cancels Tour

John Mayer has just cancelled his tour, including a show at Shea's due to MAJOR throat problems.
First, a personal message from John:

During rehearsal on Tuesday, it came to mind that I should see my
throat doctor because something didn't feel/sound right. I went in for a
visit on Wednesday and a scope of my vocal cords revealed that the
granuloma has grown back where it had mostly healed. This is bad news.
Because of this, I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from
live performing. Though there will be a day when all of this will be
behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care
to have you count down.

I want to explain this a bit more in depth than I have in the past,
because I know there's some confusion as to what this condition is; a
granuloma forms and continues to snowball because it's in a spot where
the vocal cords hit together and there's no way to really give it a
chance to heal without a good stretch of time and some pretty intensive
treatment. In short, it's one giant pain in the ass.

Okay, so here's the plan... Born and Raised will be released as
scheduled, but because I don't make a very good
anything-other-than-a-musician, I'm going to begin writing the next
album very soon. I feel really vibrant as a writer at the moment and
there's no reason not to begin the next album project in the time I
would have been touring. Somewhere in all of this is another surgery and
a very long chemically-imposed period of silence, so I hope you'll
understand that I have to really pick that date carefully.

I'm pretty emotionally burnt out at the moment, but please know how
hard I tried to resolve this and how disappointed I am that I can't
perform this record yet. I'm completely bummed, especially for all of
you who started making plans to see a show. Nothing feels worse than
having to break the stage down before the performance, and I mean
nothing. I love this band you were going to hear, I love the guys and
girls I work with, and the only thing that stops me from devolving into a
puddle of tears is knowing that it's a long life, and the greatest gift
in the world is being able to create music no matter what the
circumstances. So these are the new circumstances, and I'll find a way
to make it mean something. That's all you can ever do.

-John

And the official press release:

No place like home

I spent the better part of last week in South Beach...OMG beautiful weather, beaches and people. Food was the freshest and most innovative I've had in ages...Fun clothes, Sick ass cars-hundred thousand dollar cars-everybody's got em...Its a little harder as I get older to say-theres no place like home, especially in the cold weather...I wonder if that means I will end up a snow bird...Won't that ruffle a few feathers....Anyhow, I love my job and Buffalo 90% of the time...I don't even mind the snow...just now for as long as we have it...But I'm thinking of spring and how much I love the feeling of a new beginning....theres no place like home....theres no place like home...theres no place like home...theres no place....like home :)
